A lesson from La Pedrera

La Pedrera

“How can I make my presentations more original?”

Aha!

Let me take you on a lightning tour of La Pedrera, one of visionary architect Antoni Gaudí’s most famous buildings, right in the heart of Barcelona.

There you’ll see a striking creation with undulating lines, curving structures, and a façade that flows like waves on the sea.

You’ll spot unusual sculptures shaped like honeycombs, pumpkins or pine cones.

Butterfly wing doors. And fern fronds made of wrought iron, gently unfurling down the stairs.

For Gaudí was a Modernist, whose design drew on the shapes and patterns of the natural world.

For the Modernist artists and architects, “Originality is a return to origins.”

For us communicators (and that is what we are – all of us), originality is to take a step back from tried and tested templates…

… and return to our origins. To who we are.

With all the mishaps and milestones – huge… and tiny - that have shaped our unique journey.

A story here, an anecdote there.

Fun facts. Surprises. And smiles.

How can you opt for originality…

…and put more of you in your presentations?

This post was inspired by a recent, spur-of-the-moment visit to La Pedrera. After 17 years of living in Barcelona, I still hadn’t had a proper explore. It was mind-opening.
