How to brag nicely
Last week I had the pleasure of speaking at IESE Women in Business Club on a topic close to my heart: how to ‘brag’ about our successes.
Kudos to everyone who stepped into the spotlight and shared their own brags — with sincerity and style ✨
One participant captured the spirit of the session beautifully:
“I’ve always found it tricky to talk about my achievements without feeling like I’m bragging… I loved the idea of sharing moments of deliciousness — telling our achievements as stories, with structure and pride, rather than shrinking them with hedging or apologising.”
That’s exactly the conversation I wanted to open — about how we feel when we talk about our accomplishments, why it feels uncomfortable, and how storytelling can help us reframe it.
I’m not a natural bragger. I’m an introvert — described as quiet and discreet — not exactly the classic profile for braggability.
But I’ve learned it’s not about being loud or arrogant.
It’s about finding a way to own your story that feels right for you — then telling it with grace and impact.
Because if we don’t champion ourselves, no one else will.
And when we do? We build credibility and trust, and create opportunities to advance our careers.
So let’s start flexing that bragging muscle — with confidence, and heart.
