Now you see me…

When it comes to speaking in public, do you prefer to stand out...

... or blend in?

The other day I watched a butterfly fluttering by, all butter-yellow wings and a splash of orange.

Then it landed on this plant. And promptly disappeared from view.

It went from, “Now you see me!” to, “Now you don’t.”

(By the way, can you see it in the photo?)

There are times when we need to speak up and stand out.

And, for introverts like me, times when we just want to blend in.

Thankfully, it’s not about 'either… or', but 'yes… and'.

To gain recognition and influence, you need to step out ‘on stage’

and be a persuasive speaker.

To make an impact with your un-ignorable presence.

And… it’s OK to step back when necessary, and recharge.

It’s about showing up in our true colours,

Both in the vibrant, getting-out-there moments when we’re getting our message across.

And when we’re sitting quietly with our wings folded, replenishing our energy.

Yes, you can be both quiet, and an effective leader.

And yes, to be an effective leader, you absolutely need to be a good speaker.

If you find yourself blending in more than standing out with your speaking,
