The empty pool
“Speaking in public is like diving into an empty swimming pool,” one of my clients said recently.
She could have said it makes her really nervous. Or that it’s a horrible experience.
Instead, she used a powerful image. One that speaks of pain and discomfort. And solitude.
Imagery - the pictures we paint with our words – can bring dry facts to life in the most vivid, visual way.
Infusing our communications with clarity, creativity… and personality.
I was moved by what my client said. And resolved to transform her experience of presenting.
From endurance, to enjoyment.
She may not be gently swimming in warm, turquoise water just yet. But she’s on her way.
Tell me. What’s speaking in public like for you?
