A cast of characters

Who’d have thought an old fuel filter and some engine oil would bring a smile to my face?

I recently dropped my car off for its annual service at a different garage from usual.

Right at the entrance was a shelf of objects.

Objects I’d never seen before in my life.

I went to take a look. And there before me was a cast of characters.

The protagonists of the annual car service.

Each had a script beside it. Each was introduced by its name, and the role it plays:

The air filter – the engine’s lung.

The oil filter – or oil’s biggest ally.

Oil itself – the star of the annual service.

And the fuel filter which, we’re told, shouldn’t really exist but given the long journey petrol takes to get to our pumps… is essential.

I was captivated.

Because those objects were woven into a story. A story that meant something to me as a customer who knows little about cars.

If you’re presenting objects or concepts or solutions, how can you bring your cast of characters to life?
