Inspiration in unexpected places

The other morning, I had a colourful surprise as I walked Phoebe the dog through our tiny neighbourhood park.

Park is a big word. It’s an area of gravel wedged in between apartment buildings and houses.

With a few trees that provide welcome shade in the summer.

I’d never thought of it as beautiful, more like functional.

And certainly not floral.

But as I slowed down, I noticed a tiny orange flower, all by itself. Then a small collection of delicate yellow flowers, probably weeds, but pretty nonetheless.

As I walked on, this time paying attention, I came across vibrant flowers dotted all around the park.

Hidden gems that transformed my perspective of this funny piece of land.

I took photos of each flower and made them into this mosaic.

The experience reminded me how easy it is to overlook the beauty that’s around us.

And that when it comes to creativity, inspiration often emerges from the most unexpected places.

My note to myself following the walk in the park:

 🌟 Be curious

Just like those flowers, what are we missing that’s right under our nose?

👀 Look – and listen - closely

What seems ordinary on the surface – a trip to the supermarket, a conversation, a solitary flower - may be the source of a story.

🐾 Step away

A simple thing like a walk in the park (or a hug with a dog) can offer a fresh perspective, and spark creativity.

For whatever business project we’re working on.

Here’s to looking beyond first glance, and listening beyond the noise.

We never know what treasures we may find.
