Stepping over thresholds
I have a habit of stepping through open gates and doors.
Last weekend in Paris, after my son’s graduation ceremony, I spotted one while walking through the ancient Marais neighbourhood.
On the other side was a quiet cobblestone courtyard, empty but for a tiny craftsman’s workshop. A goldsmith’s, as it turned out.
Moments like these always feel symbolic.
A small threshold, a quiet invitation.
I follow my curiosity and step across a miniature version of liminal space.
Over the years, that impulse has led me to unexpected treasures:
🔹 A turquoise-and-gold 14th-century Mudejar chapel in Córdoba
🔹 A stretch of washboard-rocky beach on the Wales Coastal Path
🔹 A waterfall thundering beside a roadside in Ecuador.
I never set out to find them. I just noticed the open gate — and stepped through.
In my work, staying curious leads to connection I could never have planned.
It can be as simple as:
✨ Asking how someone feels
✨ Listening for what’s beneath the words
✨ Helping someone shape and share their story
And the result?
“Caroline gave me more confidence, much better self-awareness, and the realisation that I already had everything I needed — voice, stories, language. I just couldn’t see it. It was as if she knew which keys would open the right doors.”
– Cristina, European Business Development Director
Whether you’re navigating change, leading a team, or learning how to listen better…
Curiosity is a quiet superpower.
It widens perspectives. Deepens connection.
And opens doors for others to walk through.
