The power of silence

I recently came across the Japanese word ‘Ma’.

A moment of time and space that is “empty”, yet filled with energy and emotion.

I love that the Japanese kanji symbol for ‘Ma’ combines the characters for door, and sun. Together they depict a door opened just enough to let sunlight in.

間

Pauses are the chinks of light that illuminate what you have to say. That convey meaning, and emotion.

That give you – and your audience – space.

Space to hear. Space to connect. Space to be.

Pauses are an absence. But one that speaks volumes.
